Almost all applications of Android use internet. Whenever our Android is connected to internet it starts checking updates, syncing contacts, syncing calender etc. If don't have an unlimited plan or a limited WiFi then data loss through these applications are little annoying. There is no inbuilt feature to enable/disable which application can use internet. But if you want you can use Droidwall or LBE Privacy Guard.
